Most of us do not think twice when we drink a glass of water. But for far too many, drinking water is like playing a game of Russian roulette. It can make the difference between life and death. In fact, when crisis strikes and health risks multiply, few things are more important for protecting lives than providing safe water and sanitation.

Access to Safe Water – Greater access to safe drinking water saves lives, but can also lead to greater productivity, creating more time for tackling household responsibilities and earning an income. Our teams improve access to safe drinking water for communities in crisis through methods such as wells, boreholes, spring protection, and rainwater harvesting. Where safe drinking water sources are not available, we work alongside families individually to find the right treatment method for them.

Sanitation – Latrines offer dignity and safety, particularly for women and girls. With your support, Medair builds hygienic latrines and handwashing stations where people live and at crucial public spaces like schools and clinics. We make sure to work alongside members of the community to provide the right training and support in hopes of sustaining the impact of our work long after we leave.

Improved Hygiene – We empower community members to mobilise and educate families on hygiene practices that prevent diarrhoea and other diseases related to unsafe drinking water and poor sanitation. Better hygiene practices such as handwashing, safe water collection and storage, and the use of hygienic latrines are proven methods to saving lives.
