Famine declared in South Sudan - Medair is responding – Help now
100,000 are facing imminent starvation
Three agencies of the UN have declared famine in the Unity Region of South Sudan. But the overall number of South Sudanese impacted is appalling: some five million people across the country are suffering from food insecurity—42% of the population! The last incidence of famine in the world was declared in 2011, six years ago!
Young children are especially vulnerable, too fragile to physically fight off the dangers of acute malnutrition. Medair is one of the NGOs present in the affected region, already working in extremely challenging conditions to save as many lives as possible.
Medair teams concentrate their efforts attending to the emergency medical and nutritional needs of severely malnourished children. Medair staff give these children Plumpy’Nut®, a very effective peanut-based nutritional paste, and take care of their other often complex medical needs. We also teach their parents healthy nutrition behaviours, such as the critical importance of exclusive breastfeeding for a baby’s first six months of life. This is how we can have a long-term impact on the community.
Please join us as we act together to save the lives of as many children as possible in South Sudan!
